High school students develop Kids for Cobbs golf outing, raise $30K

The Cobbs Creek Foundation hosted its first annual Kids for Cobbs golf outing at the Aronimink Golf Club, an event that raised more than $30,000 to support the Cobbs Creek Foundation and TGR Learning Lab.

The idea for Kids for Cobbs came from Sean Allen, a Cobbs Creek Foundation volunteer and junior at Haverford School, who wanted to do something to support the programs and opportunities the Cobbs Creek restoration project will bring to the city and community.

“That’s what the Cobbs Creek Foundation is all about: collaborating across communities to bring people together to do good things,” Allen said. “I’m so thankful to start something that will really help kids in the communities around Cobbs Creek for many years to come.”

Other Cobbs Creek volunteers who helped with the outing were Teagan Cook, a junior at Episcopal Academy; Nick Shanahan and Connor Dodson, both sophomores at the Haverford School.

The event hosted 40 players for an 18-hole round of golf on one of the hottest days of the summer at the acclaimed Aronimink Golf Course, home of the 2026 PGA Championship.

Golf was followed by dinner and a presentation from representatives of TGR Foundation and the Cobbs Creek Foundation. We also were joined by Kianna Gee, TGR Foundation’s summer intern and a West Philadelphia High School junior. Kianna shared her experience with the Learning Lab’s pre-launch programs, what she’s learned and what she is most excited to see when the TGR Learning Lab opens in 2025.

Kids for Cobbs was also a chance to showcase the incredible collaboration we can see happening through the partnership between the Cobbs Creek Foundation and TGR Foundation. We have so many exciting programs in the works and always looking for ways to bring awareness to the enrichment opportunities that future students will receive through our work together.

We’re grateful for the ongoing support of our community and opportunities like Kids for Cobbs that bring us together and show our excitement to change the game.
